Best new restaurant in Newcastle in 2018, EASY
For being such a large area of the North East, Gateshead is pretty empty when it comes to great restaurants.
Let’s not call it NewcastleGateshead…on the Gateshead (NE8) side of the quays, you’ve got Raval and SIX at the Baltic, and…that’s about it. Deeper into Gateshead, there’s Eslington Villa, which has been well-regarded for a long time, but other than that, you’re looking at cheap neighbourhood restaurants in places like Dunston, Low Fell, and down towards Washington and Heworth way.
If you know of any other great Gateshead restaurants or places to eat, give me a shout!
Still a 6/6?
🌯 I mean, someone needs to really tackle burritos in Newcastle .
Miss you, Staiths South Bank 💔
Let’s keep it together, Newcastle.
Curry & wines?
**Update – Southbank Grill closed in 2014, and now houses River Beat**
Brilliant views of afternoon tea over Newcastle.
Going hand in hand with their launch of new venture Garden Kitchen, Fresh Element and the kitchen team at Six at the Baltic have launched a new afternoon tea menu at the Baltic sixth-floor restaurant, which, if you can recall, we were fond of when we visited this time last year.

Last week we lucky enough to be invited to the launch of a new menu at “luxury restaurant and bar” just over the Tyne, Raval (NE8 2AT). Only last August we ate at the launch of the same “new platter menu” – so whether this means the new menu has been a bit of a none-starter – you decide.
Scores much higher than a SIX.
