  • July 12, 2011

It was my birthday this week, and one of my gifts was aftfernoon tea at Close House, which is somewhere we’d never been before, so it was great to go and check it out.

EAT! Newcastle Gateshead 2011

  • June 28, 2011

A quick peep at some of the food I consumed during this year’s (excellent but very rainy) EAT NewcastleGateshead!

Review of SIX at the Baltic, Gateshead

  • June 8, 2011

Scores much higher than a SIX.

Flying up the glass elevator at the front of the Baltic (NE8 3BA) takes you to one of the highest and greatest views in Newcastle – not a bad place to try some of the best food the city has to offer.

Blagdon Farm Shop’s Sausage Rolls

  • May 6, 2011

In the morning, Blagdon farm shop brings out freshly made sausage rolls - still warm, on the counter at the till. It’s not hyperbole when I say these are the best sausage rolls you can get in the North East! Amazing. 89p each. Blagdon Farm Shop NE13 6DA

Review of La Gabbia, Newcastle

  • April 21, 2011

La Gabbia is now CLOSED – will get a post on replacement, Ernest, ASAP

Hidden gem

We visited La Gabbia (NE2 1AP) after getting a recent voucher on Groupon, which I can only hope has boosted this restaurants profile – it’s location is a little out of the way but charming nonetheless.

Sachins at Fenwick

  • April 17, 2011

Lunchtime snack from the aforementioned Sachins in Fenwick’s food hall - onion bhaji (£1.15), vegetable samosa (£1.15), peshwari naan (£1.35). Bhajis are a bit greasy when not reheated but gorgeously spicy all the same.

Doddington Ice Cream

  • April 12, 2011

Ultra-creamy fig ice-cream cone from Doddington dairy hits the spot on a lovely spring day. Check out their stall just outside the Civic Centre - today only!

Review of Oldfields, Durham

  • April 10, 2011

Update: Oldfields is now closed.

Quick brunch is mostly a hit.

Oldfields (18 Claypath), promises “real British food, simply prepared using the finest, local farm-sourced seasonal produce, at good value”. Having visited on two occasions, I probably can’t argue with that.
