Local Food Hygiene Ratings Losers

With the demise of Scores on the Doors in the region a few months ago - a new national standard stepped up - the Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating.

Ratings are based on…

“how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored

“the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities”

“how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe”

…and range from 0 - “urgent improvement necessary” up the scale to 5 - “very good”. Very similar to Scores on the Doors - but it seems inspectors have been more persistent in a short space of time, and a lot more places have already been rated.

Not too many surprises, many of the places contain the words “pizza” and “cottage”, but a few names we’re sad to see on there - buck up your ideas guys.

Thought hard about posting these, but really, if you’re paying for food - the least you can expect is for the cooking conditions to be clean. I know from various people that it is difficult and finicky to achieve 5-star rating, but you have to wonder how bad you must be to be rated zero, 1, or in cases, 2?
